ARTY SUMMER CLOTHES-

ARTY SUMMER CLOTHES-

Printing with a Jumbo Tee Juice Pen with a stencil

By this time of the summer I always feel the need to have something new in my closet. Sometimes that process involves making fabric or changing up an old favorite garment.

Drawing with a sewing curve

Making fabric for summer sewing: I am experimenting with new ways to combine the  Tee Juice Pens with my stencils. I am excited about the results. Here is the process: I used the Jumbo Tee Juice Pen in my Greyscale set  and quickly rubbed it through some part of the Big Hopper Stencil. This type of application has a very watercolor brushstroke look. By drawing more lines in the 2 other sizes of pens, I like what I am getting. I use my sewing curves to get the nice clean lines with the smaller pens. I am going to play with adding some color to the next ones. This technique will be beautiful with my new stencil designs that will be available soon.

Stenciled Torri Top

With the warmer temperatures, I reach for my light-weight cottons and silk organza layers to keep it all light and airy. Here are 2 of my favorites: A mint green silk organza Torrii Top, Pattern #100 the Torrii Collection. I stenciled it with flying critters from my Bugs in Flight Stencil . If I'm using lightweight fabrics...I like to keep the details simple...no buttonholes,  maybe ties...or just a favorite pin if I want to close it. I like this piece over a slipdress for a summer evening outing. I love to give it a spritz of lavender rose water as I am pressing it too! If you are planning to make the Torri, It has many variations and it makes a fabulous comfortable summer dress with a short sleeve in linen.

Folded & Printed Linen Vest

Another favorite is my linen vest. It was an oversized jacket. After removing the sleeves, folding, pressing and stitching, I added a contrasting binding to some of the edges. I printing the surface design with my Jacquard Paints. You may have a favorite collection of images. I used  my Spring Leaves, Eucalyptus, Wingz  and Bugs in Flight  stencils on this garment.

I hope you are enjoying the summer months and will add some printed fabric to your sewing, Diane
