JANUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER : Calling in 2021 on A Wing 'N A Prayer

JANUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER : Calling in 2021 on A Wing 'N A Prayer

There has never been just one way to MAKE calling me-

As makers, that love affair with what is sensuous in our hands, drawing us farther in, creates meaning.  Part of my story, is being drawn to MAKE  with materials that stretch me in different directions. That WAY always inviting me to step back and see a bigger picture of my life: clearly a work in progress!  This triangular wall piece in twigs, tied with copper wire,  has my drawing of rocks inside, rolled, with a bouquet of charred pieces inside, plucked from that life before. Open heart, open mind, open to the sky and taking flight.

HOW does structure emerge in change? WHERE are the hand-holes in that rock wall? Climbing again, reaching for the plateau with a view for resting out there.

“New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings” Lao Tzu

Visual images are an opening, they are a way to expand my playing field. This tethered wing, from a 'sketching/making' session, reaches for the familiar and helps me find what is next.

Pieces of The Wing n' A Prayer Bird Panels  were the perfect way to celebrate the everyday with new Tea Cozys. Making multiples is a good way to see your design skills evolve inside of a theme: Fresh fabric combinations now can reset your design intention as we reset for 2021.

A Tea Cozy can just be a unique soft sculpture to enhance your table. I loved adding HABU threads and some hand stitching to mine. Wanna make one or more?! See my Tea Cozy Pattern for more shapes and piecing ideas to play with.

My New Wardrobe!! I'm excited to share my wardrobe building process with you this year. My categories come from what I wish WAS in my closet. It's a way to inspire my new life going forward in this New Year. Here are my first pieces: A flannel tunic and a French Fold Shrug. See my January Journal entry for details on these garments.

Grateful for us.... Thank you for being part of Community, Diane

You have a following of so many that love your designs. I’m sure everyone is feeling the same. Finding our path forward; many of us have been there, leads to new inspiring ideas that you, as an artist, will express. This journal gives us a glimpse of your journey. Very inspiring! Thank you!
