Inspired New Making-Ashland Vest & Taos

Inspired New Making-Ashland Vest & Taos

Layered Textiles, Thread, Paper & Surface Design

Taos finds its way into all of us in the studio there… weaving together natural materials and colors from the landscape…maybe grinding earth into ink….

At Design Outside the Lines- June 18-24th, textile & mixed media guest artist, Carol Lee Shanks will join us in our home for the week at the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House & Studio.

We invite you to settle into the studio with us for a week of inspiration, big views, starry nights, nurturing meals and accommodations in the high desert of New Mexico. It’s a time to unfold and explore your relationship and love of MAKING: Layering techniques with needle and thread, local treasures and printing on fabric always creates exciting new directions to explore. Everything is possible….what do you imagine for yourself?

Will you create your own fabric and drape a tunic? …..make a collection of small bags or layered fabric pieces? Bring your favorite materials and tools and we provide the rest, for exploring printed surface design, drawing and stitching and more.

What’s Next?

“I’ve just completed a year-long intensive design challenge focused on working with regional fibers and plant materials.  Experimenting with these resources has revealed new information and excitement for further exploration.

I’ve decided to go on an archeological dig within my studio to rediscover materials on hand, to transform old into new and new into old, while exploring familiar and unfamiliar territory.  What comes next is unknown and I can’t wait. See you in Taos!”               Carol Lee Shanks

“I love draping a garment! …and opening to other directions in making are powerful reminders to broaden my internal conversations, rest there, and always stay true to my heart.” Diane Ericson
