" I was born with a needle and thread in my hand. I don’t remember a time that I wasn’t making something from Fabric or yarn. I grew up in Ireland on a farm and the textures colors and beauty of the nearby Burren always inspire me. My mother made a lot of my clothes, but out of necessity rather than the joy of it. In Primary School (Grade School) we had sewing classes and that continued into Secondary School (High School). After that, I enrolled in Home Economics classes, and later advanced design at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. The desire to learn has always stayed with me.
I came to America in 1987 after I married my American who I met in a pub in Ireland. Before long, I was making custom Bridal and Evening Wear. During that time I attended lots of workshops and classes. I attended my first Design Outside Workshop with Diane Ericson and Marcy Tilton in 2005 in Asheville, North Carolina and that opened up a whole New World of design possibilities. Now most of my work starts out experimentally my interest in the slow stitching movement has led me to see how far I can take new ideas using what I have in my fabric collection. I have an idea, choose a design, and collect lots of fabric scraps, usually pick a color theme and start to build on that. Now retired, I am able to revisit all I had learned along the way and share it with other fabric enthusiasts." Mary Glenn
